Book Review

Title: House Rules
Author: Jodi Picoult
Rating: 3.5/5
Summary: A boy, Jacob, lives with his mother and his brother, his parents having divorced. However, apart from that , Jacob Hunt is not an ordinary boy. He is autistic, having been diagnosed some years before with Asperger's Syndrome. This form of autism does not affect his intelligence, but wreaks havoc with his social skills and tolerance of certain sights and sounds. When life becomes intolerable for him, he breaks down, screaming and flailing around. The story really begins when his social skills teacher, who is helping him to live with and perhaps overcome his problem, turns up dead and all the evidence points toward him. Whether he will be convicted of murder will be for readers to know, and for others to discover.

Review: Although a very interesting and intriguing book, faster readers can figure out the end of the story before the characters even know what has happened. The hints given by characters are glaringly obvious and the ending is very mundane.
